Further guidance

More about the types of organisation and projects we fund

  • We will consider applications from faith groups as long as they can demonstrate that they are inclusive of other faiths/no faiths within the project for which they are requesting funds, and in their workforce.

  • We will support campaigning organisations, those who act on behalf of communities without a voice or who support people to access the services they need, but which are not actively promoting the interests of any particular political party.

  • We have a preference for working with local community organisations with an income of up to £400,000 per year and reserves of between three to six months annual running costs.

  • We are also interested in projects which disseminate their results, successes, and challenges, to help inform other organisations and improve the work of the sector.

  • Your application should demonstrate to us your understanding of your local community and your beneficiaries, any persons with lived experience in your organisation and their role, and your reputation within your local community.

  • We have a particular interest in projects which are new or pilot projects which aim to collect evidence in order to scale up an initiative or service.

  • We will consider applications from previous grant holders or applicants but advise you to call first to discuss the timing and project/need.

What we don’t fund:

  • Capital works/improvement processes.

  • Projects which cannot demonstrate their main beneficiaries will be young people within the age range of 11 to 18 years.

  • Organisations with a turnover of over £1m.

  • For profit organisations.

  • Organisations that cannot sufficiently demonstrate an understanding of the local area in which they plan to work.

  • Large organisations seeking to roll out standard programmes to communities in which they have no previous experience and/or cannot demonstrate how they have established the local need for the service.

  • Projects or organisations without a focus on our geographical area of benefit (Greater London).

  • Organisations which encourage religious conversion.

  • We will not typically provide grants to mainstream schools or colleges but will consider organisations which enhance the formal educational offering of their partner institution/s.

  • We will not favour applications from large statutory bodies such as hospitals, but will consider organisations linked to such bodies where the grant size will make a significant difference to how and if the project runs.
